NFT Gro Tanks

Unrestricted access to oxygen – without the need for a timer.

Available in various sizes.

Our Gro-Tanks give roots virtually unrestricted access to oxygen. Yields are typically 3x bigger than if growing in pots.

Plants are placed in rockwool blocks and the roots grow along the planting channel benefiting from superb access to oxygen.Nutrient solution is constantly pumped to the roots, there’s no timer to programme.Because virtually no growing medium is used there’s nothing to transport or throw away at the end of the season.

Zero waste – the only growing medium used is the rockwool block the plants were started in. This means there’s less chance of disease and less waste material to throw away at the end of the season.

3x Bigger Yields – The constant supply of water and nutrients directly to the roots combined with unlimited access to oxygen means plants are healthier, faster growing and produce 3x more yield than if grown using traditional soil methods.

Healthier plants – plants are never under-fed or over-watered and there is no build up of salts in the root zone.

Get more out of a small space – Gro-Tanks are just 20cm tall and there’s a system for every tent size!

NFT stands for ‘Nutrient Film Technique’, a very shallow stream (or film) of water containing dissolved nutrients is constantly pumped past the bare roots of plants.

The main advantage of the NFT system over other hydroponic methods is that the plant roots are always exposed to a perfectly balanced supply of water, oxygen, and nutrients. In every other method there is a conflict between these requirements, the optimum amount of one results in an imbalance of one or both of the others.

The secret to NFT’s success is that because very little growing medium is used a thick root mat quickly develops, the upper surface of this root mat is always exposed to the air (so the roots have superb access to oxygen) and the roots are always moist with water and nutrients.

This means that plants have access to the optimum amount of water, oxygen and nutrients all at the same time. The result is higher yields of high-quality produce and a longer period of cropping.

A properly designed NFT system must have the right channel slope, the right flow rate, and the right channel length. Our NFT systems took many years to perfect, it’s no wonder they are Europe’s best sellers.

Golden Rule – Ensure plants are root bound before they go into the system. An abundance of white roots should be visible on the outside of the starter media.

• As a rule of thumb: 1 plant per square foot. This can be increased or decreased depending on plant variety.

• Pump runs for 24hrs. No need for a segmental timer or feeding schedule.

• Completely remove plastic wrapping from rockwool cubes or remove pots if using soil or coco. This allows the roots to access more oxygen.

• NFT is a bare rooted growing technique. All but the smallest of plants will need additional support, i.e. yoyo’s or pea netting.

• Cut lengths of spreader mat long enough to allow an overhang of a few inches from the channel into the tank. No trickling water sounds!

As with all hydroponic systems the reservoir should be emptied and replenished every 2-3 weeks to maintain a perfect balance of essential nutrient elements. This is easy to do – just reverse the pump and attach it to a length of hose.

Various Sizes of NFT are available.  Below is a list of recommended systems for various tents. All of the NFT systems come with a kit which includes, pump/s, spreader mat, PH tester and PH down, and irrigation bits as required.
